What’s popular right now? What are customers looking to add to their home, and what are the trends likely to drive sales? Cashing in on the latest trends is a huge part of a successful ecommerce platform, but it must be balanced against the risk of being overly focused only on what’s trendy in the moment. We’ve curated a list of a few current design trends that offer stylish place right in the sweet spot—trendy enough to inspire sales, not so trendy as to be out of date in less than ninety days. Textiles and Texture Of course, this isn’t a new trend, but there are few new takes on an old classic making the rounds this fall. As the mercury takes a nose dive, we’re looking more than ever for texture that creates a sense of warmth and coziness. A big Sherpa blanket over the back of the sofa isn’t the only way to get there. Velvet is hot right now, and for good reason. A rich, saturated jewel tone is perfect for the cooler months, and velvet runs the gamut from a gorgeous sofa to an easy-to-add throw blanket or accent pillow. We especially appreciate that velvet brings softness to a living space or bedroom, helping to create a warm, inviting space. Another hot commodity is mud cloth. Shibbouri and indigo-dyed mud cloth create a textured, layered look and again, are an easy-add for customers not looking for a huge change, but willing to add a little something here and there to update their favorite space. Mud cloth traditionally offers a dark-on-light African-inspired pattern and you can easily find it on a wide range of textiles for the home. A pair of throw pillows added to a leather sofa, or a wall hanging are easy offerings that deliver rich texture and depth to an autumn-ready living space. Macramé. Not just for your great aunt, still stuck in 1970 Americana anymore. Macramé has come a long way and it’s another easy way to change up the texture of living area decor. A macramé table runner in bright white with fall pumpkins and gourds splashed across a sideboard or centered on a dining table look fabulously on-trend this year. Perfect for Boho-inspired spaces, including an outdoor patio, macramé is a versatile choice, offering your customers another easy update option. Look too for woven chairs and, of course, accent pillows and throws. Finally, hot for fall is a gorgeous caramel-colored leather. We don’t even need to sell this one, it sells itself. Rich in warmth and beauty, caramel leather is a trend where it may make sense to go big. A stunning caramel leather sofa is going to a beautiful centerpiece for years to come. And leather never goes out of style, so an investment here is worthwhile. Other ways to introduce this trend to your customers might include an accent chair or ottoman, or even just wonderfully warm caramel throw pillows. Millennial Blush Pink The hottest thing since sliced bread? Not sure about that—or whether Millennials would even understand the reference—but it’s a good one to add to your arsenal as you curate a fall collection. This soft, inviting hue is always appealing, and now it’s moving beyond simple pairings with gray and shades of light brown. For fall, showcase blush pink against copper, teal, or blue to create an eye-catching display to entice your customers. Greenery We admit, this isn’t a new one, and it certainly doesn’t scream “trendy,” but we’re seeing new applications for fall that are intriguing. Instead of pumpkins, gourds, and everything orange, we’re seeing more and more wall and table decor focused on adding greenery to the modern living space. An easy accent in any room, try to create a selection of simple additions that embrace the warmth and texture of fall, without falling back to a traditional red and orange color palette. Hurricane and Pillar Lanterns Whether filled with traditional wax candles or newer electric selections, a hurricane or pillar lantern is a fantastic way to add a touch of romance and whole lot of warmth. We’re seeing more romantic, Boho-inspired versions than ever before and they’re perfect for ushering in fall and its cooler weather. Traditionally crafted in glass, lanterns now are incorporating color and texture in the form of metal accents and textured glass. Candles always create an appealing, warm ambiance, and they’re a welcome addition to any room. An easy seasonal accessory, lanterns may simply be stowed away when temps warm up.
