Fall has arrived. Figuratively, if not literally.
How do we know? There are a few ways, not the least of which is the rapid onslaught of all things pumpkin spice. Another, a flood of emails encouraging me to buy sweaters and all manner of fall decor. On top of that, Labor Day has come and gone, marking the unofficial end of summer. And now it’s open season on all things Autumn.

Does this compute? When a desk becomes a fashionable décor accent
With mobile phones pushing landlines aside, and the art of handwriting becoming all but antiquated, it’s time to confront this very basic fact: it’s a digital world. Consumer research entities report an exploding number of computer devices per American household, meaning we are moving quickly toward a fully electronic sphere. How does this work in to home décor? Easily. Designers are finding new and creative ways to accommodate electrical devices and computers into the fold of basic home furnishings. The obvious first step is surfaces that make room for laptop or desktop configurations. Not exactly a new thing, yet one that improves with every redesign. For those who cringe at the idea of an office theme permeating fashionable living spaces, don’t fret. There are plenty of desks that are designed to look more like a console table, and have stealth attributes making computing easy. Dinner is served. And deciding what it’s served on may prove more difficult than settling on the meal itself.
There have never been more dinnerware options. High-end serving plate not for you? You’re in luck. How about serving your lemon baked cod atop a rainbow fish platter or nestling your freshly basked gingerbread cookies in the comforting arms of the North Pole’s own Santa Claus instead? As I recently perused a friend’s wedding registry I was surprised to find a set of vibrant, multicolor dishes and bowls requested in place of formal china. The set was chic and high-quality, but quite a deviation from the iconic crisp, porcelain china of registries past. Where is the silver gravy boast? The crystal drinkware? I began to wonder: has formal china become passé? What’s New and Fun in Home Decor Whether you’re just playing with ideas or embarking on a serious redo of your living space décor, there is plenty of guidance for how to assemble a look that fits your signature style. You know what you want. Or maybe you don’t, but you know it will hit you when you see it. Good news! Designers are on the job, updating trends year after year and dangling enticing examples before your eager eyes. If you were to hire a personal stylist, you’d be asked to describe your lifestyle, palette preferences, motif and era favorites. Will you work with some of the elements you have? Or will some retailer be enriched as you throw out the old and start from scratch? Let’s get this out of the way: there is never a bad time for hosting a party. Teenagers are well aware of this, as are younger kids experiencing their first sleepovers.
The adult version needs no occasion or excuse; there’s no need to plan far in advance. And when the gathering isn’t huge, it’s still fun to assume the role of accomplished host. It was bound to happen. Following a six-year drought, the likes of which we hadn’t seen in a century, Northern Californians have been swimming in torrential downpour and its soggy aftermath. Rainfalls from February 2017 onwards have topped typical annual measurements in some areas, and the rest of us have seen significant precipitation for the first time since 2010. It’s no wonder, then, that my longing for All Things Outdoor is in full swing. I’m envisioning a luscious warm summer just around the corner, and lots of opportunities to do what we West Coasters do best—celebrate al fresco.
Not usually attracted to patio furniture, I’m salivating over a fabulous find that kicks my summer dreams into high gear. If entertaining at home is something you’re passionate about, I suggest considering upgrading your home’s barware. For your next dinner party, get-together, or Sunday enjoying football on the couch, an impressive collection of items used to create and serve your guests their adult beverages will completely alter the environment and the experience that your home has to offer.

Thanksgiving is sort of a tough cookie, decor-wise. It’s not known for the grandiose, macabre decorations of Halloween, it’s not one that I like to go all out for, and if you’re entertaining, you’re certainly not taking the winter and Christmas decorations out before Thanksgiving has passed. So, where does that leave us by Alexa
We all have that friend who is always taking photos of things. Maybe you, like me, have become everyone’s spontaneous personal photographer. I can’t say that I mind. Like most millennials, I thoroughly enjoy taking photos. Whether I’m clad in my real-deal DSLR, enjoying the spontaneity of old-school Polaroids, or simply armed with my camera phone, you can guarantee that I’m snapping away at something. I love to capture objects, places, and things that are both meaningful and visually intriguing, aiming to take away a photographic memento from each day. I’m a proud digital photo hoarder, a lover of memories. But with so many photographs, how do I appropriately savor and showcase all of my favorite daily portraits and picturesque landscapes? The Window Pane Photo Display is the perfect solution. The instant I saw it, I had to have it. Fashioned in the style of a rustic viewport, this multi-photo frame is great for displaying all of the highlights of a particular photographic collection. Decorated with a host of my most cherished candid snapshots, this intelligently designed display gives me the ability to offer guests a rare window into my daily life. With 16 square photo slots, this collage frame is also oh-so perfect for the avid Instagrammer. House your most popular grams in this charming frame and your friends will heart them even more in real life. And what about those extra stunning photographs that deserve to stand on their own? For those special gems, I’d opt for this gorgeous Rustic Belle Frame. This beautifully antiqued Victorian-inspired frame is ripe with old world sophistication. Bordered by this floral encrusted vintage-style frame, your all-time favorite snaps will feel more like timeless works of cherished art. I’d love to pick up a collection of these frames, mount them throughout a bare hall space, and arrange an impromptu home gallery. By John
Given the choice between a night out—perhaps spent in a restaurant, at the movies, or even at a favorite bar—and a night in with a good book and a cup of Earl Grey, I’ll usually opt for the latter. Like anybody, I like to feel comfortable and at the end of a long day I want to be able to open the door to my apartment and know that the space I’m in, regardless of what’s outside, is somewhere in which I can feel completely comfortable. The Tatiana Walnut and Blue Upholstered Accent Chair is just one ingredient that makes such an environment possible. I could not be happier with this chair. I stumbled across it on the Lamps Plus website and it stood out among a handful of great choices. Its legs wear a warm finish in which you can really make out the rich grain of walnut wood, giving me just the right amount of rusticity I like in a personalized, homey space. What’s more, I happen to love certain colors with wood finishes, and the deep navy blue upholstery of this chair goes well with its walnut legs. On top of that, this chair also offers me a modern accent. Its open back and curving frame feel like an authentic contemporary design with just a slight touch of retro style. This makes this chair’s design very specific, and therefore all the more personal when I come home and see it among my other furniture. Its frame bulges outwards where the arms would normally be to form a kind of subtle embrace when I sit down, offering me optimum comfort while also giving me enough support so I won’t necessarily nod off if I decide to read (something I’ve been known to do). The other thing about this chair, perhaps one of my favorite of its features, is its size. I live in a studio apartment, so while I wish for the luxury of a super-plush couch or sofa, it’s not really an option for me. This chair basically gives me comfortable cushioning without taking up an entire quarter of my apartment. All in all, even though I don’t have that much space, I still feel like my place is truly my own. And this chair is definitely one of the reasons I can say that. |
